Your Blueprint for a Master Bedroom Addition: Planning and Design Tips

As it is one of the simplest rooms in the house, bedrooms are often overlooked by other social areas, such as kitchens and living rooms. One of the first steps to designing an ideal room with Zenith Design + Build is to develop a good layout based on the floor plan of the place. And to help you, we have put together 7 tips to help you in this process. Check out:

  1. Ensure good circulation

Try to keep circulation on one side of the room. Hotels are great examples of this. There is a reason why 90% of hotels have the same floor plan: because it is simple and it works.

Ensuring good circulation can be more challenging in the case of suites or rooms with doors to the outside. Therefore, you need to pay attention to where the bathroom and closet will be located in the space. Rooms with access to the bathroom or closet before the sleeping area (as shown in the figure on the left) require a larger entrance hall.

Now, in rooms with master bedroom addition plans where it is necessary to enter the sleeping area before accessing the bathroom or closet (as shown in the figure on the right), a hall will not be necessary, but it is important to establish an obstacle-free passage.

  1. Value the view

It’s always more pleasant to enter a room and see a beautiful view through the window rather than face to-face with a closet. Therefore, always try to enhance the view from the room, even if it is a simple backyard landscape.

  1. Maintain privacy

Avoid creating layouts where it is possible to have a view, in social spaces, directly into the room. Always think about the possibility that residents can leave the bedroom door open without worrying about whoever is in the living room or kitchen, for example, being able to have a great view of the room.

  1. Create a connection with the external area

We know that this is not always possible. But if the environment allows integration with the balcony or backyard, we strongly recommend that this connection of spaces be made. In addition to being an excellent way to make the room even larger, it also allows for more natural lighting.

  1. Think about the furniture layout

The environment’s architecture must always consider the furniture that will be used. Most of the time, bedroom floor plans have a wall intended for the headboard of the bed. But we can’t forget the cabinets, racks, TV, etc. It would help if you thought about how this will all work together to ensure enough space for movement on all three sides of the bed.

6‍. Improve lighting and ventilation

Doors and windows are of great help at this time. Whenever possible, add openings to two or more walls. This way, you will create a wind current and allow more light to enter the room.

  1. Don’t rush

A good project takes time and usually requires changes to reach the ideal result. So remember: don’t rush. It will be more worthwhile to spend more time on design, ensuring the project will be functional and meet your client’s needs, than to waste time in the future on rework.

The truth is that a good project is not necessarily the most complex or most expensive to execute.
