Labuan Bajo in Flores is located in a crescent-shaped bay surrounded by steep hills from the coast. It is so picturesque here, with a panoramic view at sunset. You will not be surprised when you are told that Labuan Bajo is one of traveler and tourists’ favorite cities in Indonesia. Here are the seven things you can do while you are on holiday in Labuan Bajo.
- Komodo Forest Hiking
Most tourists looking for activities in Flores will come to Komodo Island, home to the famous Komodo dragon. To see the Komodo dragon, you must take a trip to Komodo Island with one of the guides. There are many established walking routes to choose from, from short walks that last 20 to 30 minutes before you arrive at the camp on the island. The best time to visit Komodo Island is in the early afternoon when the giant Komodo dragon sits lazily under the tree shade and the young dragons roam the desert.
2. Taking an Instagram selfie on Padar Island
Padar Island is a natural highlight of the Komodo Islands. The island is famous for viewing points where you can see the three beaches of Padar Island (one is white sand, one is pink, and the third one is black sand). The best time for climbing is when the sun rises in the early morning. Keep in mind, there are Komodo dragons on the island, and they stay in the shade of the rocks, so be careful.
3. Swim with Mantas at Manta Point
Manta Point is one of the most famous diving spots near Labuan Bajo. This is where we could meet turtles and stingrays. It is one of the best diving sites on Komodo Island. Manta Point is so popular due to the fact its powerful nutrient-rich water flows through the strait could attract large stingrays. Manta Point is recommended for divers with rafting experience.
4. Take a live boat tour on board
If you want to know what to do in Labuan Bajo, we suggest you take a live boat tour of the Komodo Islands. There are several options that could adjust to your budget and interests. If you are only visiting Labuan Bajo for a short period of time, we suggest you take a three-day two-night boat trip. This will allow you to visit Komodo Island, swim at Pink Beach, hike Padar Island, and many other activities. There are real-time packages that fit most budgets. You can book a cabin on the boat in Labuan Bajo as well.
5. Snorkeling at Komodo Pink Beach
Komodo Island is the largest of the 27 islands in Komodo National Park. There are many things to do on Komodo Island. After seeing the Komodo dragon, the next activity on most Komodo Island tours is to visit Pink Beach. This beach gets its name from the red sand grains formed by brightly colored coral grains, giving the pink beach its unique color. Aside from you can take photos of the beach, you can also snorkel in the coral reefs offshore. This is a beautiful place to swim and explore but beware of strong waves.
6. Watching the sunset at Amelia Seaview
Amelia Seaview is a famous viewpoint outside Labuan Bajo. This mountain overlooks a bay across from Labuan Bajo. There is still not much hotel development on this part of the island beside Sylvia Resort. This is a beautiful environment and a good thing to do in Labuan Bajo at sunrise. If you walk 5 to 10 minutes from the hotel, you will see Amelia Sea View.
7. Explore Komodo in Rinca Island
Rinca Island is the best place to watch the Komodo dragon. Like in Komodo Island, if you want to see the Komodo dragon in Rinca Island, you need to take a hike around the island. The walk is much shorter than on Komodo Island because the island is much smaller. Although the chance of seeing Komodo dragons while hiking in Rinca is slim, you would almost certainly see these Komodo dragons next to the ranger station. Komodo dragons wandered around the kitchen in groups.
